Recomend a wireless router

I want to buy a new one. My WRT54GL is looking aged. My budget is about $150 but $100 would be best.

Im looking at this. It has great reviews with two USB 2.0 for printer and harddrive sharing

Tomato USB firmware runs great on it. Personally, I'd only buy something that supports DD-WRT, I've found the 3rd party firmwares to be better than any stock firmware.

On a side note however, I can't recommend relying on wireless for HD media streaming. Two of my clients are wireless, and it works, but HD movies aren't the best (one client is only 10 feet from the router) but its serviceable.

I recently purchased a D-Link Dir 655. The wireless is fine with a pretty good distance going through a house to a metal building about 50 fett away. I haven't tried the usb for sharepoint so I can not comment on that. I upgraded the firmware because I was have some trouble with VPN but all fine now. This is serving up to 6 hardwired and 5 wireless clients. In the beginning I did have some problems with it not keeping the IP's I needed to be kept on certain machines without renewing them but got that sorted and has been flawless now for about 3 months.

Ive used Tomato and DD-wrt. But the newest models are not on there database. For ecample the Netgear WNDR3700 and 4000 are but the 3800 and 4500 which are stellar routers are not. So DD-WRT may be out. Im just not sure yet

I would strongly recommend the Linksys E4200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6833124411

Normally a $180.00 router on sale for $150.00. To my knowledge DD-WRT and tomato have not caught up to this router yet, but it is a beast.

Airport Extreme Base Station.

No problems out of them. I have them set up in many households and currently in the process of switching our office as well.

Played with the Cisco/Linksys E4200 all last week as well. Didn't seem to get the same throughput over wireless as the AEBS.

Nothing beats it in the price range of 200$.

I am a long time (7 years) DD-WRT user. Had many 54g/gs/gl models during the years. For a year now i am a routerboard user...it is a bit hard to be configured, but once properly done it is the best router for semi-pro usage.
Hope I helped you.

For $150 budget, you'll be very happy with this combination (it's just barely over $100)-

and

I know it is refurbished, but there is nothing to worry. It's manufacture refurbished. It's better than new, and it carry the same warranty as new.

Sorry but these are one of the worst choices in the market nowadays.
Have you ever played with them?
The new SOHO linksys production even don't deserve to be commented.

I'm not sure what you are reading. I used to have Gigabit router by D-link, and I can never get five bar, and it died on me last year. I got Cisco as a replacement, and it never drop below five bar. I use to have trouble streaming HD Netflix, and I can stream fine with E3200. I never have any drop so far, and it rated very high among users on amazon too- http://www.amazon.com/E3200-High-Perform...415&sr=8-1

I am not reading reviews but testing. Smile
The bars itselfs are not a real benchmark as sometimes less bars are giving better connection. It is a matter of software, not more, not less.
The reason I recommended Routerboard platform over any other kind of linksys was because for the price of half of a linksys router the user gets much more power, stability, speed and options. The last mentioned (the options) are not included in the SOHO routers but in much higher class ones which are in the higher price range as well.

++ for ASUS routers. Just install DD-WRT on them, because the included firmware sucks. Great hardware, though.

The five bars are real and it is working fine to me. The software that comes with it works fine on my system too. I never can stream online HD content fluently with my previous routers (including D-Link Gigabit router). I got consistent five bars on my five PC’s and I can stream fluently now.
