It sounds like Lion and Mountain Lion have really messed things up with SMB file sharing. I have installed SMBup for Mountain Lion but I am still unable to access my Mac file share from Windows 8. Windows 8 is the HTPC box running XBMC, and when I click on Networks -> Mac-Pro it gives a diagnosis error. Without SMBup I was getting a username / password prompt which would not let me access my files.
Is there an easy way to get this working? I'm hoping to have my Windows 8 box communicate to my Mac Pro (Mountain Lion). Been looking for tutorials on how to do this but nothing seems to be doing the job.
