What is this little search box on the righ side of home menu?

Just noticed it after switching back to confluence (after trying some other theme that I hated) Confluence was perfect until they add this "search string" thing.

How do I remove it or return to the previous version that didnt have it?

The button launches Global Search add-on. If you remove the addon via addon browser the button will not be visible anymore.
