Linux HTPC Build - Ubuntu w/ AMD & TV Tuner
#1
HI all, first post in these forums, so be gentle.

I'm starting a build this week hopefully if I get all my parts together. Here's what i've got:

Silverstone ML03B Micro ATX
Gigabyte GA-F2A85XM-D3H Socket FM2 AMD A85X Chipset
AMD A8-5600K Quad-Core Socket FM2
ADATA S510 120GB
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1250
Diablotek PHD Series PHD380M 380W
4 x XION AXP Alphawing AXP-GF80_WT 80mm Case

Anyone have any comments/suggestions for this setup? I've got an external 750gb HD i'm going to be using until I can get a deal on a pair of internal drives that I can possibly RAID for storage.

Thanks in advance!

Nobody eh?

I should have all of the parts tonight, aside from the 4 case fans, which I'll add in when they come.

I'm going to try out this install: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=141369

I'm new to Linux, and seems like a good place to start.

Turns out my PSU is too small!

Does anyone know where I can get a mATX to ATX PSU adapter?

What you are looking for is called a SFX to PS2 bracket..
Looks like this:

@wurm - thanks so much, all my searches have been fruitless. Unfortunately the link you provided wants to charge me +$80 to ship to canada... but I found one on eBay that will be considerably cheaper. Thanks again!

After spending about 5hrs last night with the machine, and installing Ubuntu (in it's various forms) about 3 times (my first time using Ubuntu) - I managed to get most of it working! Including the Live Tv portion! I'm pretty excited.

Next up is getting the remote that came with the Hauppauge 1250 to work. Not sure if it will, but i'm going to give it a try. Does anyone have any info that might help?

In case anyone else is looking for an adapter like this, I found this (which didn't come up in a regular ebay search):

Jumped the Ubuntu ship, installed Windows 7 (after much struggle).

I think a BIOS update helped, but everything seems to be running MUCH smoother with Windows 7

Hi flashpunk,

I've just set up a HTCP like yours and I have the exact same issue with the PSU form factor.
Thanks for the link, it is still available even two years after! I think I will order it there.
