Linux Digital S/PDIF Ubuntu
#1
Hey all.

I'm having an issue with my audio on Ubuntu. I'm running 12.10 with XBMC Frodo. The problem I'm facing is every time I restart the system, I loose the ability to play 5.1 Surround through the S/PDIF connection. The audio options are setup as such:

Audio Output Device: HDA Intel PCH, VT1708S Digital S/PDIF
Passthrough Output Device: HDA Intel PCH, VT1708S Digital S/PDIF

When I restart the system I loose the above options and I have to run sudo adduser <username> audio. I then need to restart XBMC and the options return. If this isn't done I'm stuck with just 2.0 stereo audio output. Any idea on why this is or how it can be fixed?

The following:

i3-2340 Processor
Asus P8H77-I Mobo
8 GB PC3 12800 DDR3
230 GB 2.5" 7200 HDD

The Audio is coming from the onboard S/PDIF output, and the video is coming from the onboard HDMI port, both controlled by the i3.
