Win Best video quality with ATI card?
#1
So I've been using a cheap low-powered linux HTPC for my XBMC needs for the last few years, which worked out really well. But now I have a decent gaming machine (Big Picture Mode!), powered by windows, rocking a ATI 6850... Playback is still very smooth, got all the audio quirks worked out.

But I'm wondering if there's optimal settings to get the best picture quality out of the extra power available now - can XBMC upscale SD content? Any 'recommended video settings' to get the best PQ?
Kodi: Kodi 17.4, with Transparency!
50 TB Unraid Server: Docker Apps: SABnzbd, Sickrage, mariaDB
HTPC: Win10 (cause Steam), i7, GTX 1080
Watching on: Panasonic TC65-PS64 with lowend Sony 5.1 HTIB
Other devices: rMBP 15", MBA 13", nvidia shield

In CCC, turn off all Video enhancements except Enforce Smooth Video Playback. So turn off noise reduction, dynamic contrast, etc. Leave deinterlacing at default/automatic.

If your display supports it, try YUV and RGB video. I found YUV 4:4:4 gave more accurate colours, but video quirks. I prefer to use FUll RGB Color is still good, but overall PQ is better.
