Where would I find the exact model?

Thanks!

Most likely printed on a label along with the serial number (which we don't need) and affixed to the back or bottom of the system unit.

Right going by the manual @ ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/..._en-us.pdf

Going by page 64 it looks like the black maybe a digital out, although I can't be 100% sure about that and it's not too clear whether those are 3.5mm sockets at the back of the pc or phono RCA sockets. If phono RCA then it's simple to connect straight up the the receiver, but if 3.5mm then you might need a 3.5mm to RCA cable.

So your saying I can get away with 5.1 Dolby Digital audio with something like this...?

I take it the black socket needs a 3.5mm plug then?

As I said I'm not 100% sure that's an digital out, but log does suggest you have one and that's labelled surround sound out in the manual so up to you if you wish to try it before getting a sound card.

Any 3.5mm mono to RCA mono should work but I'd be inclined to read from the comments to check for one which people have working in a similar scenario, for example http://www.amazon.com/PDIF-Adapter-3-5mm...AD0J856DY8
