So this is a bit of a strange one. I have a HP Workstation XW6200.
It had Windows 7 on it, I decided I wanted to go linux XBMCbuntu (But will to try any distro)
Everything installs fine, The machine itself is sluggish but it works however once XBMC is loaded there appears to be no sound.
I go to the settings and its set to the X-FI card in the computer.
I swap that to HDMI (Three choices HDMI 0 is the only one that produces sound)
So here is where the trouble starts.
Whether I choose Analog or HDMI, 2.0 or 5.1 all audio in the menus is distorted, Sometimes playing four or five times in an echo style.
If I play a video it could play fine for a couple of minutes and then suddenly this horrible, Digital distortion/scratching sound starts and can go on for anywhere between 10s-1m
It will stop... audio will go back to normal and then it will happen again.
It makes everything unbearable to watch, I tried to re-install Windows 7 but now its telling me that the "Hardware" isn't supported. Typical.
Any suggestions, I've just bought a new TV and speakers and would really like to get this setup!
Thanks
