How would this unit run XBMC?

Well I'd like to be well under £150 if possible. Basically I can either plump for a little black box and go without the heavier skins, running the risk that any files with HD Audio may not play properly, or get a DIY project up.

Problem being that the NUC route seems to come in way over budget. It needs to be a small unit. So anything in this case is not what I want:

Is there something I can build for between £100 and £150? It will only be used for XBMC.

It really isn't, not in the UK. Around £150, as in just over £150, yes. Well below £150, no, not with new parts in a small form-factor.

Yep. That plus a couple of SO-DIMMs (total 2GB should be enough, 4GB won't cost much more) plus a USB stick and OpenELEC and a remote and you're up and running.

Will the lack of a USB3 impact on speeds?

OpenELEC is loaded into ram. 2GB is plenty for oE.

Celeron NUC is fine for this. I have one.

You need NUC, ram, memory stick and remote. Job done.
