@solamnic, its too late for you, but its a suggestion for others.
I am using Zotac zbox. its working well and stable with windows 7 ultimate. using it as XBMC HTPC and winginx server.
this is the link
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ZOTAC-ZBOX-ID83-...s=zotac+i3
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ZOTAC-ZBOX-ID83-...s=zotac+i3
powet consumption is only 25w, whereas other itx are about 150w minimum.
you could connect your hard drives externally with usb 3.

It has a 19v output power adapter like in a laotop. but usually for laptops its about 60w.
here is the proof, scrol all the way down to zotac.

here is the another proof

this is the speciality of zotac series.
note: I purchased this in last January. before that I have been using 350w HTPC. I checked electritcity usage graph with our electricity provider website, it was dramatically reduced. Since I am operating a web site, my pc is 24/7.

mate..
my friend wanted to avoid the "octopus" external drives built...
nevertheless thank you for the suggestion..

yep, some dont like "octopus", I am having just one 4tb external.
this is the exact model what I have with 3D bluray player. and the processor is Atom 525.

ans I suppose, this is very cheap alternative, and weigh better solution for xbmc than Android devices.

I believe you with regard to the Zotac, but your other comment about "other itx" systems is way off the mark. My recent Haswell i3 build has the following measurements:
Idle, sitting in desktop it’s hovering in the low 21w area.
1080p Bluray rip playback is ~ 23w
Probably not as low as a NUC or the newer Zotac, but still not bad!

w.r.t to the 150W claim, here's my real-world experience:
Intel i3 with low-profile HD6670 or AMD A10 (non-K): 150W AC adapter (max load ~120W)
Intel i5/i7 and AMD A8/A6 (non-K): 120W AC adapter (max load ~100W)
Intel i3/Celeron/Pentium and AMD A4: 84W AC adapter (max load ~70W)
Celeron SoC/Atom 60W AC adapter (max load ~30W)
These were usually measured with 4-8GB of RAM and an SSD. Adding a 2.5" notebook drive only adds a few watts. A slot-load notebook drive adds little and was never tested combined with a full-load.
Do not believe the on-line power calculators

ok guys, I will withdraw "other itx" and "android devices". I just made a suggestion to solamnic, from my experience.

fireeater - it's cool. I was just questioning your statements for the sake of clarity, as it was a bit of a sweeping statement and could have been misleading to people scanning the forum. You know how it is....
Now, I'm sure there will be more frugal i3 systems (and the opposite) than mine, so my reply was based on my own experience. Things have moved on quite a bit since your system was produced, and power consumption is going down while at the same time processing power is going up.
Hopefully (like me) you learn something new everyday!
cheers

no problem, as you said NUC is also pretty small unit and low power consumption. but additional storage will be "octopus" exteranal usb. and its too expensive than solamnic's setup.
