Gigabyte BRIX vs Intel NUC (both Haswell)
#1
Everybody is talking about the NUC from Intel but how about the Gigabyte GB-BXi3-4010GB-BXi3-4010 ?

The NUC has an IR port but the gigabyte has a bluetooth, wifi and the VESA Bracket included, ideal for BT remote

I would say the current non haswell ones have the best "value" and the celeron brix http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6856164005 comes with the wifi card, making it the better buy if you want that.

But as mentioned, whats GREAT about the haswell nucs (besides fixing the 24p sync issue) is the IR on the front panel, and the ability to wake it up/power it on via IR. That makes it a great HTPC.

** You can do that with the non haswell, but you need extra parts, etc

I don't get this whole

thing...

You can just install a wifi card into the NUC's and get this? Don't know about VESA bracket though....

But if I had to choose, built in IR and having to put in a cheap additional card that takes 2 seconds to fit VS built in wifi but have to wire in IR...pretty easy choice Smile

Wifi and bluetoot need antennas you can't fit it that easely in the NUC, from what I can see their is space for a MsataSSd drive and memory but that's it

Quote:To install the memory, SSD and wireless card in the NUC you are looking at about five minutes of work. You first need to install the wireless card by placing it in the half-height mini PCIe slot and screwing it down. Once it’s tightened down you can pop on each of the wireless antennas and the wireless card has been properly installed.

To install the mSATA SDD drive you need to use the full-height mini PCI slot. Just like on the wireless card you put it in at an angle and then hold it down flat for the screw to be put in place. Once you get the screw slightly tight you are done installing the wireless card and the SSD.

That sounds a lot easier than drilling holes in the case etc for IR >.<

Aside from price I'm not really sure why anyone would consider the Brix over the NUC when looking at the new haswell lineup. Maybe when the Iris pro brix comes out but that's not for a while, and then we are in to bay trail nuc discussions too Tongue
