Artifacts / pixelation on network share
#1
Hi, I am having video quality issues sharing video of a wired network. XBMC is installed locally, media is on a shared folder on another machine. If I copy file locally there is not issue.PC is a Dell Optiplex GX620, with added Nvidia 210 card (1GB). 3GB RAM and 3.4GHZ Pentium D. OS on both machines is Windows 7 Pro. XBMC is version 11, with MQ3 skin. When copying file locally it plays fine, but over network I get the attached issue. Sometimes it plays for an hour or so before it starts. Once started, the issue is in the video as well as the menus etc. Have tried wireless and wired, 2 routers. Problem seems to disappear for a while after a full shutdown, appearing after an hour or so of video. Any ideas?

The pics make me think it is a hardware issue. Since you say it happens after an hour or so, I'm thinking it's overheating.

Open up the case, blow out the dust (don't use a vacuum!), and see if the fan on the video card is still spinning (if it has one, that is).

Also, take a good look at the capacitors on the video card. I've seen my share of NVidia cards blow caps (they look bulged at the top of the capacitor).

Check the easy stuff first. You never know, you might get lucky.

That certainly looks like a hardware issue to me. Try installing the free version of HWMonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html) and see what it says after a couple of hours trying to play content. Posting back the results would be helpful.

Also a log would be helpful. Here's a guide incase you're not sure how to create one: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Log_file/Easy
Please read the online manual (wiki) & FAQ (wiki) before posting.

Thanks for the suggestions. The problem was solved by replacing the 210GT nVidia card with a 610GT nVidia card (both 1GB cards). So it seems the system needed a bit more grunt on the video card.
