Req XBMC installs - analytics
#1
Is there currently any way to register the number of XBMC installs per OS? It would be a nice feature to include, much in the same way Cyanogenmod tracks how many installs they have. Just make sure the user is prompted about this on first run Wink

The thing is, we could always do polls on the forums asking who uses linux, windows, raspberry pi, atv etc., but the forum only has a fraction of XBMC users globally. Would be extremely and perhaps a way to promote usage of such a fine(best) open source media center Smile

On a side note, this should be a feature that's off by default unless you agree to the terms - so that nobody accidentally enables it. Off course, in these days anything that tracks usage is a touchy subject. In this case I think it could be a great way to get the word out to potential users. Share the knowledge! Smile

The only analytics we have for XBMC are server request stuff. So we can count how many times a specific file has been downloaded, such as XBMC v12.3 for Windows, or a specific add-on, but I believe that's about as far as it goes. There are analytics tracking on the website itself, when you access it in a web browser, and that can be disabled using the standard "do not track" setting in most major web browsers.

There have been a few blog posts on http://xbmc.org about these numbers. I think the last time we looked the largest group of users were Raspberry Pi users.

Yea, I remember seeing that pie chart. It's quite impressive that the Raspberry Pi user base is so large, the Debian ARM version almost beats Windows 8 x64 alone - although I expect a lot of Win 7 users will have migrated to Win 8 by now.
