Connection timed out, samba share from ubuntu
#1
I have a gbox mx2 running xbmc connected via lan cable. Internet works just fine, netflix, project free tv in xbmc, etc. When I try to add a samba share, I get connection timed out. Tried both adding network loc smb and the windows share smb option.
With the windows share option, it sees my server and my laptop and can connect to the laptop but when I click the server I get connection timed out. With the add location smb, same thing. My laptop connected the share from the server so I know it works. Everything is typed in correctly.

Earlier I had a problem adding an http dir pointed at that server, too. There's a thread about that below. I'm guessing both problems have the same cause.

Thanks for any help.

I don't have a solution for you but I experienced similar problem trying to access shares on a Windows 10 box.

I upgraded my w8 workstation to w10. Now Openelec on the RPi box can't access the w10 workstation. I don’t use homegroup just simple user/pass shares. I also have a w7 box.

Sharing that works:
RPi could/can access w8
RPi can access w7
W7 can access w10
ES fileexplorer on my Android can access w10.

Openelec _can't_ access w10

Both instances are using the same login and password.

Instead of entering the user/password normally like this:

I just get a timeout when accessing the workstation

I can ping w10 from PRi/Openelec.
