Remote Choices NUC + OpenElec

Hi, I’m about to order my first NUC and was interested to hear peoples views on NON-qwerty type, IR Remotes.

As I’ll be running just OE, so basic navigation (may dual-boot later... but I’ll cross that bridge if I go that route). Looking for simple media remote.
Have seen these so far:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PC-Mouse-Remot...0539577389

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Windows-Control-...mce+remote

Dont mind spending more for a more premium product.

Thoughts please?

Thanks. So basically any Windows MCE compatible remote should be good, yes ?

I can recommend the Logitech Harmony One+. If you use the Xtreamer Ultra profile and add it as a device you are good to go. Though I miss a button to get directly to the channel list OSD in LIVE TV (watching).

I just found this (though it’s probably a bit out of date, I guess)

Well I bought one of these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Windows-Control-...mce+remote

And I can’t get it to be recognised by the NUC (D3410)

Have confirmed that IR is turned on in the BIOS.

Searches on here indicate that there were various “fixes” etc but should be ok now in Gotham.
What could I be doing wrong.

Additionally I bought one of these Digiflex devices (crazy cheap but actually works ok IF USED WITH THE INCLUDED IR RECEIVER)
It’s a piece of s*** really but at least I can “slowly” move the mouse-pointer around etc

Thanks for any tips as I know the IR issue has been a long standing one.
btw, I have installed the latest Intel BIOS.

Cheers

I don't know if you've patched your nuc with the tip on 1st page of haswell thread but i did and i've got my universal working now. There's a guide here: http://intelnuc.blogspot.fi/2014/01/gett...swell.html which also explains how to check if nuc is receiving remote commands.

Thanks cineman.

Unfortunately none of those steps made any difference. (All the commands loaded in those examples but the NUC still doesn’t recognise any commands from the remote.
I’m guessing it could either be a duff remote (LED’s flash furiously on keypress, however) or it just isn’t compatible.

Shame... I didn’t want to spend weeks getting my new media player working. I may even just return the nuc it and look elsewhere, life’s too short these days.

That's a shame if it were me i'd go for this http://intelnuc.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/m...ntrol.html It's on amazon for £17 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Remote-Control-R...mce+remote
Edit
Or ssh to nuc, type lines from haswell thread:

cd /storage/.config
touch autostart.sh
chmod 0777 autostart.sh
nano autostart.sh

# IR fix
modprobe -r nuvoton-cir
echo "auto" > /sys/bus/acpi/devices/NTN0530\:00/physical_node/resources
modprobe nuvoton-cir

with this remote http://www.amazon.co.uk/One-For-All-Cont...all+remote program code 1972 into game function

Yup, already done all this.

Edit: just found in the back of the original packaging that the remote came with,.. it’s own IR receiver. Will give this a go (suspect it’ll work) but that’s not what I wanted to do... I want to use the inbuilt IR receiver on the NUC.

Cheers

As I suspected, the remote works fine with it’s own receiver, but not with the inbuilt receiver.

That's cool a lot better than having to have internet on for a wifi app. Sure you'll sort it eventually Smile

I have this remote which I use to replace my broken panny remote. It also controls my sky and xbox. I have the Baytrial N2820 NUC would the above code make it work with that NUC also? Also sorry to sound stupid, but if I SSH to the NUC via putty...Do i just copy and paste the code?
