Win Error: unable to create application. Exiting
(2015-06-26, 03:59)Hisma Wrote: before i deleted the kodi directory, i had made a backup. so i reverted to my original kodi directory, and started deleting files from the /userdata directory. found once I deleted "profiles.xml", all is good.
No idea why that fixed it, but it did.
Hisma, thanks for putting the hard work in, it worked for me too. I've been struggling with this problem for the 2 months since I started using it. I've now created a batch file to delete profiles.xml on startup and all is sweet at last.
Prior to this, it would randomly take around 10 attempts to get Kodi working, which was a real pain.
I've been looking for an alternative to Windows Media Player before I go to Win10 but Kodi was too hit & miss until now - thanks again.
Hope the developers rid Kodi of this common problem for good - it is otherwise a great app....

I have the same problem and after deleting C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\userdata\profile
it seems that this problem is solved.

deleting profiles.xml worked for a few days but now it doesn't start at all. Had to go back to win media player :-(

Breaking News: Kodi doesn't seem to like running when win media player is running. Once I quit win media Kodi worked. I noticed that when Kodi installs it puts another version of DirectX on the system. Maybe this could be part of the problem?

Because I had a hard time parsing the long thread I thought it worthwhile to post the workaround. I got this with 15.1 and even after an update to 15.2.

Solution: AKA work around. If you get this error check for a corrupted or empty %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\userdata\profiles.xml

Make a backup copy of it, JIC. I renames mine to profiles.bad.xml

Restart Koki.

My config was mostly in good shape but I lost my DVR connection. Not too hard to recreate.

I expect the cause of the corruption was a hard hang of the PC and a forced reboot.

Anyone can help me? I've deleted profiles.xml and everything is ok, but I would like to keep my settings.

I have the same error on my micro server running windows enterprise.

If I right click, and 'run as administrator', Kodi works

Hello all,

As you can see from the first page, it was me who started the thread, ny posting "Error: unable to create application. Exiting". Back then it was XBMC, and now When I have updated to kodi v.15.2, i syet again deting the same problem: "Error: unable to create application. Exiting". I saw other posts about this, abd tit solves by removing the profile.xml file, I did that but no use. It appears again. So I read through the posts, and There was something anout patching: xbmc/cores/AudioEngine/Engines/ActiveAE/ActiveAE.cpp On this website: https://github.com/fritsch/xbmc/commit/e...ad0cbcf9a5

Can someone please tell me how to patch this thank you.

P.S. I'm using now Kodi v16.0 “Jarvis” beta 2 and here is the bug report: http://pastebin.com/zPgyaVP1

I too have been having immense problems to get my kodi v.15.2 running. I am a "NEWBIE" AND REQUIRE SPOON FEEDING TO SOME EXTENT. I have been able to post my guisettings.xml file and my kodi logs below. i DO NOT HAVE A CLUE AS TO WHAT's GOING ON.

1: http://pastebin.com/3EzrxsFd ---guisettings.xml file
2: http://pastebin.com/Rcwp3z4D ---kodi logs

Can someone help urgently?
I would appreciate some much needed help on this matter since I have tried everything suggested in earlier threads but I have had no success to date.
Please Help!!!!!!!

Okay, the problem is solved. Get rid of you current Kodi installation and download the version you want to use.
Do NOT run the setup file. Instead, use 7-zip to extract it to a folder "Kodi-15.2-Insengard" for example.
In that directory you will find a sub directory called $Temp.
Do the following 4 steps (not sure all 4 are needed but do them anyway)
run as administrator the dxsetup
then run as administrator and check "repair" the follow three vc executables 2008, 2010, and 2013.
Kodi will run right from there, but I closed it, and moved the directory to c:\program files (x86) and renamed it kodi.
It is running right now.
I am guessing it is was a vc problem caused by installing a third party app, but I don't know for sure. I do know this fixed it.
