New TV.com script
#1
Sad
ive just released a new tv.com script for retrieving info/videos/etc about shows/episodes from the site. and i would like to get some input on what other features that could be usefull. please try it out and give me some comments. and if you have any problems, please let me know.

it is available at xbmcscripts.com (link)

im going to add a bookmark feature, so you wont have to search for a specific show every time. it would also be nice to download show images and show them as the folder icon when browsing my tv folders (like the imdb script).

let me know what you think!

i have not tested it yet but here's a few suggestions...

1) allow you to login with your registered id and see your favorites and such.

2) scan a 'tv shows' share (created with bookmarks) and automatically create an episode guide based on what you have in your share.
- useful for those of us that have been screaming for a my tv shows section for 2 years now.
I'm not an expert but I play one at work.

the current script is working fine for me... no issues that i have found.

i would change the background so that the bottom portion of the text (on the right side of the screen) is easier to read.

other then that, so far so good!

could you elaborate some more on what you mean with a episode guide? would you like to see a bookmark list of the shows, when you have searched the share?

there is a problem with the tv.com site, it is not possible to search for episodes with just using the name of the episode. the only two search types are shows and persons. but i think i can solve that by searching for episodes on google, it needs a little tweak though.

tv.com errm.. look, i've absolutely no objection to ppl writting script for those that already exist (more the merrier), but seeing as i've already had one called tv.com on xbmcscripts for about 10 months. any chance you could call yours something else ?

i realise mine needs updating as its broken in a few areas but i'll get round to it once work load dies down.

episode guide:

this topic has been put on the table several times by myself and many others. we wanted this built into the core but has not happened.

most of us believe the current screens and stacking options do not work well for tv shows (episodes).

goal:

have a section within xbmc that allows for a listing of tv shows in several views that allows for easy navigation of shows by 'season' and 'episode'.

navigation is by both episode 'season/number' and 'title'. thus allowing views to include: banner, individual episode icons, etc.

this would allow for sorting via any of the variables: season, episode number, episode title, etc.

all images, show, and episode info is pulled from http://www.tv.com!

view examples

'all seasons & episodes list with banner'
Image

"bart goes crazy"                season 1  -  episode 1
"homer drinks lots of beer"   season 1  -  episode 2
"this is the episode title"      season 2  -  episode 1

'per season episode guide with icons'

Image   "homer drinks lots of beer"   season 1  -  episode 2

bbb,
i thought your script was called mytv? what about you and redsolo combining efforts so that we have the scripts work toghether (even though being developed separately) so that we can have an episode guide based on http://www.tv.com that will work with the tv grid in mytv?

this would be brilliant!

well, as your script wasnt working and as i just got into the xbmc, i wanted to play around with a script that mirrors the info from the site (preferaby tvtome.com, but as you know that site died Sad ). and why not share my attempt, as there is no other script that is currently working?

about the name, i know that the names clash but the folder within the zip pkg is "www.tv.com", so our scripts doesnt actually clash on the xbox. then it is hard to come up with a name for a script that just collects info from one site, but perhaps i could change it to "www.tv.com".
