Looking for a device with pass though like google tv
#1
Hello, I am searching for an android box like the Gbox but one with a pass though like the Google TV so I don't have to switch back and forth from my cable to android box.... or is there any Google TV box that will allow me to install XBMC on it?

I think the OP means HDMI (video and audio) pass-through, not audio pass-through to a AVR.

Currently, I don't know of any Android boxes that will do that and I'm not even sure if Android can do that anyway.

It might be possible some time down the road, but you're going to probably have to wait for some Android TV (the OS) devices to come out over the next year.

He is referring to the the HDMI input that was on the original GoogleTV boxes and is also featured on the Xbox One console.

Unfortunately HDMI input pass-through is very rare these days, it is possible with Google's now renewed AndroidTV platform some vendor might do a box with a HDMI input as AndroidTV still retains the some of the guide/PVR features of GoogleTV but they are optional so its a big longshot.

Hisense USA sell some TV's that run Android, but it's but would require buying a TV just to run Kodi.

I saw a clone once from a Chinese vendor of a GoogleTV that ran regular Android with HDMI input and all but that was like 2 years ago, doubt it still exists.

Posted a request here suggesting Kodi integration http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=207585

This would be a cool new feature for Kodi

Funny you asked about this particular feature because just today while I was at the AVS Forum, I found them talking about this bugger here:

Apparently is not a bad device for Kodi either, if you are willing to live with Android limitations.

As I posted here http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=207585

Only a few Android boxes have supported this in the past but today several new Android media players have begun featuring both HDMI-input and HDMI-output and it would be cool if Kodi could utilize that function. This is also something that have been available for a while in some computers and computer graphics adapters as well as, so this feature should also be possible to achieve on Linux too at least.

Realtek 1195, Hisilicon K3V2, Rockchip RK3288, and Amlogic S812 for example are all relatively new SoCs for Android which can feature both HDMI-input and HDMI-output, however there are also Android boxes available with older SoCs from other manufacturers which feature HDMI-input as well.

Some specific Android boxes that available today with HDMI-input are for example: Ugoos UT3, EC EC-U6D, Eweat EW902, Nagrace HPH NT-V6, Giniatech/Mygica ATV1200, ATV1610, and ATV1810, Huawei MediaQ M310, Enjoy TV, and Asus Cube V2 with Google TV. Geniatech Dragon Board I and Dragon Board II are also Amlogic AML8726-MX and Amlogic S802 based developer boards respectively that both features HDMI-input and supporting both Android 4.x and embedded Linux.

And as calev already mentioned, Alienware Alpha is an example of a new gaming PC for Steam OS that features HDMI-input
