[AFTV] -solved- AC3/DTS Passthrough does not work with TOSLINK SPDIF
#1
Hi,

i just tried to enable "audio passthrough" in Audio Settings (AC3 and DTS receiver enabled in settings) and played a video (.ts) with AC3 audio content.
Menu sound are working perfectly. Unfortunately my AMP shows "dec error" just after starting playback of my video file. If I disable the "audio passthrough" option i get perfect Stereo sound. I got similar issues months ago with my other HW (cubox-i) but this has been fixed for many weeks now. Therefore I assume that this is neither related to the video file nor to my AMP. Both HW setups (AFTV and Cubox-i) run on Helix RC3 / RC2 software.

Here is the link for the debug logs (AFTV) http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=372701 start @11:19:56 T:1530926840

I changed the setting of my AFTV to enable Digital Audio over optical out.

the only difference I found at the first glance seems to be a configuration issue of CActiveAESink:
AFTV

Does anyone know how to overcame this?

I have exactly the same issue with my AFTV over optical. DTS files play fine but AC3/DD5.1 only work if I disable AC3 in my passthrough settings.

Interestingly, if I enable AC3 and/or dolby digital transcoding, my receiver claims it is receiving a dolby digital stream, but there is no actual sound. If I disable it, the receiver just outputs in stereo as expected.

As I mentioned before, DTS works perfectly.

I'm also experiencing an issue with Kodi RC3 on my Fire TV with AC3 (or AAC with Dolby Digital Transcoding enabled) files and passthrough enabled. I receive sound but there is a large choppy sound over the top of it. I've tried this with multiple files that previously worked ok. Kodi RC2 did not exhibit this issue. The only thing I have found to do is to for the moment is to turn off "Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver" in Audio Settings and watch the videos in stereo instead of 5.1.

My Fire TV is connected to my AV Receiver via HDMI

Also as above DTS still works, though there is a one off short random noise spike at the start of play.

I downloaded the nightly build yesterday and this resolved the issue.

I tried the newer builds and am still having the same issue. I think there is still a problem over optical for some reason.

Hi,

I updated to the latest Helix Nightly() and tried SPMC 13.3.3. But still the same results. I do not get any AC3/DTS sound. I only see "Dec Error" @my AMP.
Here are the logs for SPMC 13.3.3 http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=377824 playback starts @ 17.10:44

Just to make sure we have the same issue rude78, what happens when you play a file that contains a DTS stream instead of AC3? Does that work as expected?

Hi,

Neither AC3 nor DTS work with passthrough.

Ah, sorry for hijacking your thread in this case. we seem to have separate issues, though maybe the root cause is the same.

Not sure if this helps but there is a new version of SPMC being 13.4.0 which was released on December 14, 2014.

Thanks for the heads up about the new version. I tested it last night and I know that for my issue SPMC behaves exactly the same as Kodi. Actually it behaves worse. At least in Kodi, I get the light on my receiver that indicates that it is getting a Dolby Digital signal, but as soon as that light turns on, nothing comes out of the speakers. For the brief moment before that light comes on, I can hear the audio in stereo. in SPMC, the receiver doesn't seem to realize that it should be in dolby digital mode and no sound ever comes out if I have passthrough enabled and am playing an AC3 encoded file. DTS works fine for me.

Hi,

just tested HD Video with Amazon Prime Instant Video. I get the same error @my >10year old Sony AMP (DB-790). Stereo sound works fine but everything else shows "DEC Error" @ my AMP. So it seems that it`s not a kodi issue. It seems that`s somehow the combination AFTV and my Sony AMP.

@_DNA_ what AMP do you use? It seems that it's related to the AMP.

Finally solved this issue: I don`t know why my AMP worked with all my other players but for the AFTV I had to change the config of m Sony AMP to " Set to “DEC. AUTO”. Now DTS and AC3 Passthrough works fine both with amazon prime and with kodi

I am also using a really old sony receiver. I will see if I have a similar setting somewhere that I can change. Thanks for the tip.

I looked at all the possible settings regarding automatic decoding and tried all combinations and it still wont output DD5.1 sound. DTS no problem and it used to work fine when it was hooked up to an HTPC but not with the AFTV. I could bug Amazon to fix this but I have a feeling they will stop offering any support once they see that the device is rooted and on old firmware. I might try upgrading to newer rooted versions of the system software to see if it helps, but I haven't seen mention of this being fixed in any change log I could find.
