Win Webserver Not Working
#1
Running Gotham.

When I set "Allow control of XBMC via HTTP" to enabled, it is disabled after XBMC is closed and re-opened.

Even during the session when it is enabled, I am unable to access localhost:8153 (the port I have set for XBMC).

Here is a screenshot of my settings after I set them:

And after closing/re-opening XBMC:

Here is the log of when I enable the webserver:

And the log when I open XBMC and the webserver is disabled:

It's like my network and XBMC can't see each other at all - this works fine on another PC.

This is after updating to Gotham - I was having the same problem with Frodo earlier tonight.

Did you solve this issue? Can you tell me what you did to fix it?
I am having the same issue now as well. However I had it working just fine on the same Windows PC all along for over a year. The only thing that changed is I installed XBMC on 2 other devices and the Webserver is working on them. Then I just happened to try usung the Webserver to connect to my original Windows XBMC and noticed it couldn't find it. I'm using a iPhone app as well to connect, so I can use it to search for all Webserver connections, which is how I set it up originally so I know it worked. However no luck, app can't find it, internet browser can't find it. So I trashed my XBMC install and tried it from scratch with a brand new install. However still no luck. Now I notice that when I turn "allow control via http" on and exit XBMC, when I open it back up the allow button is turned off. I've even tried all kinds of different variations of options selected after trying the defaults, and changed the port to variations of 80, 8080, 90,9090,70,7070. Nothing works and this is extremely frustrating after I know It used to work.

Can anyone help. I've never posted my log file file so in the meantime I'll find out how to do that and post it as well.

Cheers!

Okay I need help. I had a great installation of Gotham working flawlessly for almost a year. Now I tried to reinstall it and I can't get a good install and don't know why. Here's my log file:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/n7ncc6q7i0y4e0...5.log?dl=0

The reason I know it's not a good install is due to:
- When I load it I get the mouse icon with the hourglass that shows it is doing something, no matter how long I wait it doesn't stop.
- When I exit, it never closes nicely and I have to use task Manager to close which says xbmc isn't responding.
- When I turn on the webserver, it doesn't actually work because if I exit xbmc and load it again the webserver is turned off.

So the reason I did a reinstall was I thought that it would fix my issue with using my xbmc remote apps (both ios and Android) which stopped working after I installed xbmc on an iOS device. Basically it was the same issue as noted above with my current install in that turning on webserver did not stick and would be turned off every time I reopened xbmc.

I have even tried scrubbing my registry for keys that looked like they may effect a new install, however there were a lot of references I didn't delete, should I just delete them all? Sorry I should have copied one of them for reference.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers!

There really isn't anything in the registry you should have to scrub. Did you also wipe your data in the userdata folder? You will have to reconfigure XBMC/Kodi and redo your libraries.

Thanks kricker, but yes I deleted the userdata folder, and I know I have to recreate all my libraries and settings. I'm just trying to get a basic install working that allows me to use the phone apps to control my xbmc using webserver. I'm lost as to what else to try.

There is something hanging up on my webserver settings, as I indicated above since whenever I exit and reload xbmc the setting is turned off. I've actually run into this before when I was installing it on my laptop. However it wasn't quite as bad but I do remember having to try different ports for the settings to stick. I just kept trying different variations and eventually got something to stick.

However no such luck this time. I've uninstalled it, reboot, shut down my pc (cold reboot), ran installer with admin rights, ran xbmc with admin rights, but nothing is working. When I uninstalled it I searched my entire system for references to xbmc and deleted even shortcuts and webpage bookmarks.

One weird thing I noticed though is that my one app on my one android device can still control the windows xbmc even after uninstalling it multiple times. Freaking weird, however it does say that it is offline and if I try to find another host it can't find it. All I tried was menu navigation so far but it seems like it would work.

Also, I did check the internet browser method to see if it was my apps, ie. http://192.168.0.xx:xx/ but that doesn't work either.

I did notice some registry entires referencing xbmc that I couldn't delete and there is multiple instances of them. However they all look like this:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1228...rences.JPG
And when I try to delete them I get this:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1228...es%202.JPG
Any idea if these could be the problem?

Any help guys or leads as to what else to look at would be appreciated.

Oops, I forgot to add to all of this I turned windows firewall off while testing as well to ensure it wasn't that.

So does XBMC work if you do not enable the webserver or is it hanging after a clean install on the very first launch?

Actually I did another clean install tonight and now at least the program doesn't crash every time I close it. It appears the only thing holding me back from setting everything up is this stupid weberver thing. I need this functionality or its a no go with XBMC. Which is frustrating because it used to work on this same machine just 3 days ago.

Can anyone determine from the log file I posted if it indicates there is a problem when the webserver loads?

Unfortunately I can not. Hopefully someone else can. Can you make a new debug log with the new install? What I like to do is turn on debug logging, exit XBMC then re-launch XBMC. With a clean run of XBMC turn on the webserver. If XBMC hangs kill it with the task manager. Then post that log. If that is what you have already done above, then ignore this.

I'm not sure if that is exactly what I did but it is no problem I'll post another one when I get home using your suggestion. Thanks for trying to help me out. Much appreciated.

Okay here is a log with verbose debugging turned on, and it didn't crash so I exited normally.

I don't see in errors in the log. So if XBMC doesn't crash when turning on the webserver now, do you still have an issue? Will it not stay active after turning it on, closing XBMC and relaunching XBMC?

Correct. The webserver doesn't stay active. As soon as I exit and go back in it is turned off again. What could cause this?

I'm thinking this must have to do with my ports and some kind of settings that have been corrupted and aren't getting written over when I reinstall. I've installed XBMC numerous times on this machine and I've added 3 other devices that are running on the same network and all have webserver working. So it's possible something got corrupted, I just don't know what or how to fix it. I got some leads from doing more google searches but some weren't clear enough and I need some help understanding them before I can try them.
