Solved Issues installing Kodi, Freezes on startup.
#1
Hello All,

This is my first post so please be gentle! I have recently upgraded my xbmcbuntu installation to 14.04 via "do-release-upgrade" so now I am running version 14.04.1 LTS.

First issues: I noticed is when I boot the system it starts with the "XBMC Media Center" splash screen... loads... then just freezes with all dots lit, i can still access the system via SSH and run commands.

Second issue: I attempted to remove XBMC entirely and re-install via "ppa:team-xbmc/ppa" however when i try i get some odd messages that for the life of me I cannot resolve even after all my research. The errors are as follows:

Code:
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/libsdl2-2.0-0_2.0.2+dfsg1-3ubuntu1.1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Code:
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kodi-bin : Depends: libsdl2-2.0-0 (>= 2.0.0) but it is not installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.

After running "sudo apt-get -f install" I get:

Code:
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libsdl2-2.0-0
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libsdl2-2.0-0
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
15 not fully installed or removed.

After this operation, 1,172 kB of additional disk space will be used.

I have run numerous repairs trying to fix or even fully remove then re-install libsdl however I still get the same error's. I have many different configuration's id prefer to not lose that's why i have not just scrapped it and re-installed. Any help would be MUCH appreciated, thank you.

Ok I was able to resolve the errors with libsld by running the commands.

Code:
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

sudo apt-get install kodi

Now I no longer get errors about libsld and verified I get the message "Kodi is already the newest version". However the first main issue still persists where it freezes when booting, It shows "Xbmc media center" with 5 dots the light up from left to right then goes black for a second and then displays the same screen with all 5 dots lit up and never gets past that.
