No smooth playback on amazon fire tv
#1
Hello,

Can anyone help me. I bought a new amazon fire tv and intalled kodi. All online streaming movies look great, but my own mkv moviescraper 1080p and series not. When camera movement the screen stutters. I bought a little black box before and had the same issues. Below my problem ( my old boxee box plays everything fine)

This is the tllb same result as the fire tv

Look at the irritating shocking screen from the lamps at the little black box.

Anyone got an idea what to do?

Thank you kind regard Robin

Yes, nearly every Android box has this issue. This is what people talk about when they mention refresh rate switching. This is why people buy mini PCs instead, because they can change refresh rate on the fly. How visible this is depends on a number of factors, like your TV and the source material.

I have an Amazon fire TV and like Ned said it does not do refresh rate switching. For 1080p content most films are shot at 24p so ideally you need the media player to output 24hz to your display. Your TV also has to be able to display 24p which most modern sets do. The aftv will output the 24p content at 60hz hence you get judder.
I just bought an Intel nuc and run openelec on it. This does do refresh rate switching so all the content I have now runs smooth whether it be 24p, 50hz or 60hz.

Thanks for the reply, but the little black box runs openelec and you manually can switch to 24p 50hz or 60hz. But still the same issue. I tried every setting.

What settings has to be done to let things run smooth on that device?
