I'm doing some upgrading in my HTPC. I store all my video data locally and I've used a few different programs over the years to acquire it like EMM and TMM.
Right now I am really liking Mediaelch. From now on I plan on just acquiring all my metadata before I even put a new movie or tv show in my library and just having xbmc using local data.
The only question I have is for my extrafanart....
I notice many of my movies have them just named with total gibberish letters (not sure what program scraped them this way but I'm sure is has something to do with downloading from fanart.tv) and some like when using mediaelch name them fanart1, fanart2 etc.

It there any issue with one of these over the other?

Not really, the artwork isn't fetched via name, but via path id.
I guess the only argument for your naming convention would be to locate fanart via search functions or file consistency.

This may change if skinners decide to implement fanart display orders when coding view.xml 's, but at this point its kinda moot.
