Android Cast to chromecast
#1
I have a Galaxy Tab S2, I can cast to Chromecast from Popcorn, and play videos, no problem. I can not get Kodi to cast at all, i have followed the you tube instructions, but no joy.
eg. Download local cast player, playercorefactory.xml
S2 Android version. 4.2.2

I have too and feeling no joy. Everyone here looks upon Chromecast as a piece of garbage. I think it works great. There is an Android version for Kodi with very little support. I'm guessing it is for Android boxes instead of tablets. If XBMC and Avia would put there heads together it would take them both to a new level. I keep hearing that XBMC is getting better everyday but without Roku/Chromecast support they are missing the boat. How many millions of these two devices sold around the world? Everyone has at least a I phone or an Android device but not everybody can afford a $1000 NAS box. I was thinking about getting a Android box but I am a little weary about getting one because of the support for Android. Really wish there was a way to utilize my CC but for now Plex, Showbox and HDcinema will have to do.

Kodi is not missing any boat since Kodi is not competing with anyone. It is not a comercial product and the team that makes Kodi possible (plus all the other contributors) do it on their freetime because they are passionate about it. They implement the features they need. If you need chromecast support, go ahead and do it. I am sure you'd make a lot of people happy.

I don't see the use case. Kodi is designed to be plugged into a tv and controlled from the couch in front of the same tv. How does chromecasting from kodi help or achieve anything?

Receiving casts from a phone I can understand, but android/yatse/kodi does that for YouTube and upnp in general works well from my phone.

Also what is this $1000 nas and how does it compare to a Iphone? You don't need $1000 to get into kodi. Raspberry pi under $100, chromebox approximately $150.00.

Kodi is not supposed to run on your phone/tablet. It can, but that's not the point. It's supposed to run on whatever you have plugged into the TV. It makes no sense to have TV box software support Google's proprietary casting to another TV box. Apps that use Chromecast and Kodi are two completely different categories of video players.

Receiving Chromecast streams would be different. I could understand people wanting Kodi to be able to receive streams, but I don't see the point in casting to a Chromecast.

"Kodi is not supposed to run on your phone/tablet". Forgive me for being ignorant but if it is not supposed to then why was software developed for just that reason? I am not trying to knock anything but to dismiss certain technologies instead of embracing them is wrong. Case in point would be that little blue pill. Originally created for its ability to lower blood pressure, but it raised something else. Kodi is the little blue pill. It was created to be connected to your television but some other uses have risen. The ability to sit in front of your television set with a tablet and/or a smart phone and "cast" Kodi to the television is a good thing. $35 to cut that cable cord is something people have been anxious to see. If Pfizer would have been adamant about Viagra being a blood pressure medication the company would have lost billions. Now I know the goal of Kodi is not about making money but to give the people an opportunity to ditch cable for good and the introduction of Kodi has put a dent in the cable companies pockets. Bravo for that! All I am saying is that Chromecast is here to stay, at least for the time being, so why not embrace it? I know I am not the only person that would like to see some sort of progress in that direction. I know that my opinion means about as much as what color socks I am wearing today and I appreciate that you replied. I just wish more could be done. Thanks for listing to a crazy man rant and I hope your day goes well.

Don't. argue. Won't. happen. We. don't. give. a. shit. about. chromecast.
For $35, get an rpi2 with the full Kodi.

thank google for making another proprietary protocol without any support outside of their very restricted terms. Its actually pretty similar to apples airplay in that regard.
Until the api is openend up and a proper chromecast library pops up:

You want it, you code it.

I guess intelligent conversation is out the window. If I could code it I would. Learning code is like learning a new language. I neither have the time or the inclination to do so. And who the hell is arguing? When I argue you will know!

Tablets and phones were never the reason. That being said, if you run Kodi on a tablet or phone then you can easily "cast" the videos to Kodi running on a box connected to the TV.

The Kodi for Android port was done to support Android-based TV boxes. Phones and Tablets are just a happy bonus, but will never be the majority use. Unlike your viagra example, the vast majority of users run Kodi on a box connected to their TV. If that ever changes then maybe it would be something to reconsider, but that's not the case today.

Even then, there are better and more standard "casting"/streaming standards than Chromecast. Google, just like Apple, hurts users by making their own little specialized standards. Maintaining every casting standard in use today would be a fairly big burden.

This was never our goal. Kodi does not provide content. We don't give you access to TV shows or movies. Kodi is only a media player, just like Firefox is only a web browser. The primary goal of Kodi is to work with with a user's local video file library. In fact, a ton of effort goes into allowing Kodi to be used with paid cable subscriptions via the PVR (wiki) feature.

I have Web Video Caster (Chromecast) with my Kodi Android and it works flawless with chromecast. Even plays all the flv movies and shows. In my playercorefactory.xml I put the code in for the Web Video caster which is com.instantbits.cast.webvideo and then made it the default player in the file. it really works great!!!

Where, on the XML file does the code go. I looked at an example I have, to see where something similar to the code would go or replace . Found nothing. So, Web Video Caster would be listed as the default external player. But, what is the purpose of all the other players listed? And, all the others listed, should they be players I really have? Some of the players listed I have never even heard of. Is it necessary to list that many? Can it be 3 or 4, instead of do many?
I see on some of the posts here by admin people that Kodi was developed to connect to the TV, not for phones and tablets. That thoroughly confuses me. If it is not installed on a phone, or tablet, or computer, how is it connected to a TV (therefore no need for Chromecast, right?)?

@brunchar what is confusing?

1. Kodi is not developed for phones or tablets, but

2. The fact that it is developed for android tv boxes means it will work on android phones and tablets, but

3. The primary design goal is for devices (android tv boxes, computers etc) plugged directly into your TV via HDMI.
