Searching for solutions to a problem, I have seen others with same problem, and would like to share a solution that worked for me.
I have fought with interrupted sound in KODI (and other players) using HDMI to my receiver for quite some time. I now found the culprit.
Installing Power DVD 11 you automatically install the program pdvd11serv.exe. This program will start with every windows boot. This program (supposedly associated with some remote control) will ruin the sound by every 5-20 seconds halting the sound for several seconds.
What you have to do is either of course uninstall Power DVD entirely, or just remove pdvd11serv.exe from start (use msconfig). To be sure, you may also rename the program file.
Everything is now honky dory. I get smooth Dolby HD 7.1 and DTS HD 7.1 with no interruptions.
Windows 7 Pro 64
i7 990e
nvidia gtx 970
Harman Kardon AVR 255, 7.1 setup
