Android Migrated from ATV2 to AFTV, nothing works
#1
Hey guys,

I have a Mac Mini running 10.10.3 Yosemite (beta) with Kodi Isengard (alpha 2) and sharing 2 folders over AFP to an Apple TV2 running the latest/last release of Helix. Knowing that the ATV2 is no longer support, and is limited to 720p, I bought a Amazon Fire TV Stick and sideloaded the latest Android release on it.

So it loads, but refuses to use the existing AFP share. I've now tried SMB, NFS and everything in between but nothing works. I'm installed NFS Manager, Samba, SMBUp, etc etc but I just get connection refused, time out or operation not valid (or something). I've enabled Guest mode, turned AFP/SMB sharing on/off/on, rebooted, sworn but no dice. I'm still unclear as what the best/most support way of sharing folders from Mac OSX is.

I tried to get the logs from Kodi but need to SSH into my AFTV, to do this needs rooting which I'm worried about doing given the burn out issue.

What does work is sharing my Mac Mini library via UPnP, but I really dislike the library view and prefer to just display the folder/files - this proves the network is fine.

So I'm very frustrated and any help would be amazing.

Maybe I'm narrow the question...

Does anyone has a AFTV Stick working with NFS/AFP/SMB/other from OSX Yosemite?

Yes to all

Nfs works best in general, but I'm using smb from my mac.

Thanks for the reply!

Interesting...I've used NFS Manager and it refuses to work. I might try the Terminal equivalent using this (http://kodi.wiki/view/NFS#NFS_sharing_from_OS_X).

Just to be clear, are you setting them as shares, or browsing a library? I'm old school and only like the file view =)

So I followed this but still nothing...

Going through the troubleshooting on that page from my Macbook (on the same network) and I can't even get to nfs://192.168.1.2 and get error;

"you do not have permission to access this server".

When I try to Connect via Finder to nfs://192.168.1.2/movies, I get;

"There was a problem connectng to the server "192.168.1.2. The Share does not exist on the server"

Yet I can Screen Share (strangely over my AppleID account @gmail.com) and Browse the share via Finder.

I'm about ready to reformat the entire Mac Mini which I'd really like to avoid.

Any clues?

SMB works from the mac smb://192.168.1.2/movies without any user/pass so why won't that work to Kodi??

OMG, finally got it to work using SMB. Looked at the console logs on the Mac Mini and saw my Macbook was connecting using Guest so I didn't put a user/pass into the SMB settings in Kodi and it worked.

Next problem...

Kodi sees the files (without fan art/etc) and can't play them;

"Playback failed, one of more items failed to play, check logs for details"

Problem is that you can't SFTP into a non-rooted AFT Stick...how do I get to those logs?

I can't find that anywhere from the Add-ons/Plugins options, nor FTP Hub. I'm kind of stuck.

Thankyou! I'm sorry and I promise I followed that but my perhaps with my newborn baby sleeplessness, I must have glossed over (maybe I was looking for XBMC instead of Kodi?!)

Anyways, so I've got the output of the debug and I'm getting;

11:50:13 T:1640103296 DEBUG: CSMBFile::Open - opened movies/Movie Name (year)/movie.mkv, fd=-1
11:50:13 T:1640103296 INFO: SMBFile->Open: Unable to open file : 'smb://192.168.1.2/movies/Movie Name (year)/Movie Name.mkv'
unix_err:'26' error : 'Function not implemented'
11:50:22 T:1639700256 ERROR: CDVDPlayer::OpenInputStream - error opening [smb://192.168.1.2/movies/Movie Name (year)/Movie Name.mkv]
11:50:22 T:1505412928 ERROR: Playlist Player: skipping unplayable item: 0, path [smb://192.168.1.2/movies/Movie Name (year)/Movie Name.mkv]

I'm getting this on the MKV and MP4's.

Thanks for bringing this up. I actually forgot about that NFS guide I wrote a while back.
I've actually added further steps for editing the .plist - as I too eventually ran into access problems using NFS sharing.

NFS sharing from OSX definitely works now. Have another look at the amended NFS Guide. Smile

SMB Sharing from OSX Mavericks & Yosemite has turned into a can of worms, you can read all about possible fixes....
