Solved ERROR: Unable to create application. Exiting
#1
Thought I should share this, in case anyone else comes to experience this issue.

So, I had this issue after I had to force close Isengard: ERROR: Unable to create application. Exiting.

Every time I tried opening the application, I get a prompt with that error.

At first I renamed Kodi in the roaming folder (%appdata%/kodi) to kodi.old.
I opened Isengard and it worked fine, but all my settings were gone - obviously.
I started re-adding my previous sub-folders from Kodi.old to the currently working Kodi folder.
I re-added the addons folder, still working fine.
Re-added userdata folder, ERROR: Unable to create application. Exiting.
Tried re-adding the entire contents of the userdata folder excluding the .xml files - worked great.

Turned out the problem was the profiles.xml file. That was the only item that required deletion - it was corrupted.
Isengard worked great after that, but I had to modify some settings all over again. Beats having to re-add addons, etc Cool

Any chance of you still having that profiles.xml and posting it?

when kodi exits, i will save the current settings to profiles.xml.
i assume when kodi crashes while writing to this file, it will become truncated.

to reproduce, simply delete the last line from profiles.xml and try to start kodi.
it will fail.

there's only one line in the logfile:
Quote:11:36:19 T:139909370882112 DEBUG: CSettingsManager: requested setting (locale.charset) was not found.

This PR will avoid the error, but will lead to your profiles.xml beeing reset. Not sure if this is considered a vaild fix.
But the logic to reset it, was already there. I'm just fixing the null exception with that PR.

i think it is. afaik we do exactly the same when guisettings.xml gets corrupted.

I'm getting this too with the Windows version of KODI vers 15.1 Isengard running under Windows 7.

Mine seems to be an Audio Engine (ERROR: ActiveAE) thats been happening all too often now and is there a fix or workaround to this?

Removing your profile will most likely fix it - but don't do that before posting another log.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Okay have created my advancedsettings.xml file and have enabled debug logging.

advancedsettings.xml: http://pastebin.com/28kZX3aG

And here is my kodi.log: http://pastebin.com/tzA77gKx

UPDATE: It's definitely a audio driver issue because I decided to change my default audio device from my mother boards integrated Realtec sound to my Creative X-Fi sound card & it loads up more often then it did with integrated Realtec audio device.

I remember reading elsewhere in here about similar AudioEngine issues regarding time it takes for it to actually detect the audio device by changing the detection time of the audio device when its loading up?

PLEASE HELP!!!
I am still getting my error unable to create application. hen I run the compatibility check on the program. It says that it needs to run on windows vista or higher, but I am running on windows 7. It keeps reading my computer as I guess XP.
It's really frustrating, I cant open KODI at all, cant run as admin it just keeps giving me that. What can I do? I have already downloaded 3 different versions of KODI but nothing

I have been having the same problem for a few weeks now, tried lots of things nothing worked. So I looked for more forum help and found this thread.
This inspired me to look at audio settings and I wondered if I had made any changes to my sound settings. In the playback settings for my soundcard, I noticed that the checkbox for "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" was checked. I unchecked this, Kodi now runs.
Hope this helps..
