[HELP or CRASH?] Black screen & crash when watching TV PVR
#1
Hi,

I've got a fairly consistent issue that occurs when using ServerWMC. Doesn't do this immediately, but I'm rarely able to watch any recorded or live TV in a session (hours or so) without it occurring.

Screen goes black, audio continues. I can close task KODI via Windows, but KODI itself in non-responsive to any remote or keyboard commands.

Logs from Kodi and ServerWMC

I switched to using NextPVR and had no issues, but found the Recording Scheduler/Timer to be less functional than ServerWMC, so have come back to try again.

Happy to turn on Kodi debugging and see if I can catch it then.

Thanks

If kodi is doing this playing recorded files it is likely a bug with kodi, since all swmc does for these is give kodi the file path to the file. Does it consistently crash in the same place on a given wtv? What is the client platform?

Hi,

I posted this bug/error in the Windows forum and the guys told me it was probably a bug in ServerWMC or the PVR Add on...

.... kricker told me to post here etc... LOL

Happens randomly on either a live TV or a recorded TV. Random but consistently enough to occur in any given viewing session. Never once happens when using NextPVR so not sure if that helps you consider the role ServerWMC or MCE plays. Could it be bad codec? What tool can I run to view and confirm the right/best codecs are being used.

Client is Windows 7 with all the packs and fixes applied.

Like I said, serverwmc has almost no roll in the playing of wtv files, it just tells kodi where they are. You can check this yourself by adding the recorded tv folder as a video source to kodi, then just play the wtv files directly from there - taking swmc out of the picture completely. If it crashes (and from what you describe, it should), then there is no way its swmc and it should be submitted as a kodi bug.

Another thing to try is to turn off hardware acceleration in kodi's video settings and see if that helps.

So how does live TV work? That's not just adding the recorded TV folder is it?

Are you suggesting the issue/bug might be the Kodi decoders trying to play the MCE created video files?

Live-tv addons need to do all sorts of things, like send epg data, live streams, handle record commands and timer, etc. But the simplest thing they do is show kodi where the recording files are so that kodi can play them. That is what you are saying is crashing, so it should also crash if you just add the recorded tv folder as a video source. I am not suggesting this is how you should do pvr, I am only saying its a way to prove its a kodi problem with your wtv files, as opposed to a serverwmc problem.

Don't forget to also try turning off hardware acceleration.
