Does anyone know if any or all KODI builds for the Raspberry Pi recognise i2S audio DACs in the audio configuration? Some time ago I hooked up a cheap USB DAC and although the audio output option was recognised in OpenELEC the audio did not work very well. I was thinking of buying an i2S DAC.

Yes, since Helix ALSA audio devices (USB and I2S) have been supported.
Do a bit of searching (or ask) before buying a specific one to make sure it is supported by default and works okay.

Thanks popcornmix. I will first see if my USB DAC works better with a more recent OpenELEC build.
