Question
Hello

I have an eye in this little box ZOTAC ZBOX CI521 nano
http://www.zotac.com/products/mini-pcs/z...1nano.html
  • Intel M-5Y10c (dual-core, 800 MHz)
  • Intel HD Graphics 5300
  • 8GB Ram On board
  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11ac Wi-Fi
  • Optical S/PDIF (via adapter)
  • Fanless, passive cooling

It is fairly new so there is few reviews arround

I intend to use it for HD video (1080, h264, youtube 60fps, etc...) and play steam games through streaming. Passive cooling (no more fans!!) is very interesting to me.
For now I am not very interested in 4K nor HECV/h265, but it would be good to know how powerfull is this processor and if it is capable of some software decoding for the new generation of codecs.

Someone has it and can give some reference?

thank you very much

AFAIK there is no one that has this because Zotac has not made it available yet (at least in the US).

I use the CI520 routinely for everything you mention (except Steam) and it handles Kodi very well. I even use its little brother, the CI320 and it works very well too.

I recently bought that exact machine and installed Ubuntu Server with Kodi on it. It works very well for me, 1080p video, h264, HDMI and analog audio all work perfectly out of the box. All without any fans. I use the same machine as a home server too, I do recommend using an SSD, which makes it completely fanless and for its form factor and low power CPU a decently quick machine. I used to have an Atom based media PC, which could for example run the Aeon Nox skin, but with this new Broadwell chip it feels much faster and much more fluent.

I have documented my install process on my blog here: http://codemu.se/2015/09/12/replacing-my-media-pc in case you're interested.
