USB audio clicks and pops which correlate with video activity on RPi2 B
#1
Hi

I'm having this problem with Kodi on Raspberry Pi 2 Model B: I'm getting clicks and pops with USB audio. These intensify when there is video activity. For instance, if I'm playing a video with no image (black screen) and return to the main screen where there's the info scrolling at the bottom, the rate of clicks and pops intensifies. This reminds me of the Windows 95 times when there was unbearable distortion when expanding a tree view or such.
The USB card works flawlessly under Windows. There don't seem to be any easily accessible audio settings to play with.
Please help...

Did some more experimenting.
First, I found about expert settings level, I never noticed it before. I experimented with "Sync playback to display" off, "Adjust display refresh rate to match video" off and both off. No change.
I then tried with another USB sound card. The pops and clicks are much rarer, but still unacceptable. One other thing I noticed with this new card is that the rate of clicks/pops doesn't change with display activity, for instance switching to the main screen makes no difference. With HDMI audio there are no clicks and pops, however. I'll use that as a workaround.
Here's an mp3 recorded with my phone, it highlights the problem well enough: http://s000.tinyupload.com/download.php?...4474885081
At around 00:25 I'm switching to the main menu, you can clearly hear the clicks becoming more frequent. I used a sine wave for the audio track so that the clicks are easily discerned. But they're audible and annoying during movies too.

Also, debugging logs.

Might be worth trying an http://openelec.tv/forum/120-news-announcements/77952-beta-openelec-6-0-beta-4-released. It has a newer kernel so may have improved things.

I installed OpenELEC 5.95.4 6.0. It did not fix the problem but I noticed that the clicks are much rarer when "Allow hardware acceleration - OMXPlayer" is turned OFF.
