Bug Crash when return to main menu - Kodi v16 alpha4 -
#1
Bug report is at http://trac.kodi.tv/ticket/16314 it has plenty of crashlogs with stack traces there, after waiting a week, I thought a forums thread might help get some eyes on this issue, as I've no idea who to ping and mkortstiege whom I cc is either too busy or hasnt seen it or is wrong person to cc. (no idea)

It was reported against 16.0-ALPHA4 Git:2015-10-09-8b88a4b Platform: Linux x86 64-bit.
However it happens with newer revisions and has been happening for last two weeks at least.

Essentially there's 4 or 5 ways I've stumbled on this bug as bug report describes but it sums up to:

1) Let kodi idle (say 10 ~ 15 minutes) while anywhere on main menu.
Press any button on remote to bring kodi up and navigate (left-left right-right up-up down-down) or goto weather menu entry and change location and navigate left-left-righ-right while on change location controls is selected.

2) Watch a episode or two of something in your library
Press any button on remote to bring kodi up and navigate (left-right-up-down)

Kodi will either hang for a long time or crash after a few seconds.

Just upgrade to Kodi 16 Alpha 4 and tried your way to crash Kodi but I can't confirm unfortunately. I let Kodi idling for ~10 mins (tried while at settings menu and the other one being at home menu), then return back to Home menu (using ESC) and starting to navigate through the menus...opened the weather menu and so on. Absoltuely no freeze, hang or crash.

I didn't enable debug logging, but here is my system information:

This looks unrelated, but can you try cleaning your ~/.kodi/temp, at least ~/.kodi/temp/*.fi

Ive deleted the temp folder several times completely even this has 0 effect.
Also disabled ccache while compiling, also no effect whatsoever issues remain.

@David try longer perhpas?

Found the cause.

Disable the Openweattermap addon and crashes are suddenly gone.

David can you enable the weather addon setup some locations and enable it in Add-on:Confluence/Settings#Home_window_options (wiki) and retest?

No crash, no hang: http://paste.ubuntu.com/12840740/

Enabled openweathermap extended addon, setup up 3 locations, enabled debug logging, reboot, gone to system settings, wait ~20 mins, returned to main/home menu and all is fine

dont goto system settings just let it idle on main menu. Ive noticed that while in system settings some things like triggering screensavers etc dont work.

IF I disable the addon here the problem goes away...

OK I think the cause of the bug is related to weather fanart images.

Essentially Confluence still supports loading fanart images from your hard drive, but for some reason it no longer works properly if you set them that way which causes these crashes (even if the fanart images were disabled)

So the root cause of that conflict should be resolved, and in addtion remove this legacy support from Confluence --https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/8260

However Ive now a new issue to try and solve with resource.images.weatherfanart.multi installed I get no weather fanart anymore...

I rather not have any then have these crashes but still...

So this bug is tripped by using openwetahermap extended (setup to show in main menu) + weather fanart images

Now, it doesnt matter if you are using weather fanart pack uploaded and selected manually or the resource addons after https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/8263 because using that the fanart suddenly starts crashing kodi again.

Remove all fanart including moving the imsgaes or removing the resource.images.weatherfanart.multi the crashes stop happening no matter what reported scenario this was tested against.

Uploaded 2 more stack traces 1x after watching and episode + duplicate steps and 1x just left idling on main menu and press a button + dupliacte steps to crash. (steps documented in trac)
