Development Status of the Picture Library in Kodi
#1
Hi,

I have been doing some research on this topic, and I am a bit confused about the current status of the Pictures Library development in Kodi. To make things clear, for me the Picture Library feature would be a solution for the user to display an unified view of pictures from multiple sources, allowing global search and filtering. Pretty much like the way Movies and Music libraries are displayed today.

According to this relatively old thread:

A development has been started then abandoned, it doesn't seem like this development is ongoing at the moment.

At the same time, there is a picture library plug-in which seems to provide all the desired functionality:

But it is not included in the official add-on repository.

So I am wondering about the position of Kodi team regarding this feature? Should this be included in Kodi application or is this well addressed by plug-ins? In this case, is there a reason why MyPicDB is not included in the official repo?

On a more technical level, I am not sure if a database is really required to provide such functionality on a basic level. For me the main goal would be to display images from all registered sources inside the same view. At root level of the Pictures Window, it seems possible to constitute the list of FileItem by scanning and aggregating results from all the sources. Then if the user navigates in a sub directory, the view could only display the content of the concerned directory.

Any opinion on this topic?
