Do you need to have a TV connected to the laptop in order to watch live TV ? I haven't been able to set it up on my laptop yet . Any help ?

Where you have NextPVR installed, you'd need to have a tuner or video capture device connected.

Once you have things setup as sub3 suggested, you don't need to connect your device to a TV to watch LiveTV. I have a copy of Kodi on my laptop and point the NextPVR addon to the installation on my media center. Using that I can watch live TV on my laptop through Kodi.
