Surround sound from kodi
#1
Hi,
I'm new to KODI and i'm using it to my iMac. I have connect my iMac to my new LG tv (42LF652V) with HDMI cable.
I also have a Philips home theatre and i want to somehow have surround sound for KODI films.
I have connect my TV with the Philips home theatre with an optical cable but the sound i get it's not surround. It comes out only from the 2 speakers of the home theatre.
In KODI i have change the sound output to 5:1 and check the dts and ac3.
Also the movies I choose all are dts 5:1.
Is there any way to have surround sound?
What do i have to do?
Thank you

Your TV HDMI inputs only supports 2 channel stereo sound.

You have two options:
1. Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro II (search on ebay) , set the delay in your Philips system accordingly. (Since the picture in your LG will be slightly delayed, and you will lose lipsync)
2. HDMI switch with toslink output: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40...nk&_sop=15. Set the delay accordingly. You also need an extra hdmi cable (obviously). In Kodi: set passthrough to on, but only enable DD and DTS.

In all cases the sound should stay at the default 2.0 channel setting.

edit: something like these would also work if you think a hdmi switch is overkill:
