Ok lol... I finally figured out I was pressing the wrong buttons.
Now it works perfectly and I can try out whether I like the PS3 remote version 1 or 2 more.
In my defense.... I actually needed to press different buttons to publish the old remote on Bluetooth. Perhaps because it was partially broken.
