Kodi 16 Blank Screen after install.
#1
Hello, I tried to upgrade from 15.2 to 16 tonight, and I couldn't get 16 to work.

Everything installs, Kodi loads (I see the new logo screen) then it goes blank. I can move the mouse around, and see the pointer, but that is all.

I made sure my drives and everything were up to date.

Any suggestions on what this may be, and how to fix it? Is there also a way to downgrade and still keep all my settings?

Thank you.

D.

And yes you can go back. Simply delete kodi (keep user files), and reinstall v15.2
I really have no idea what I am talking about. Proceed with caution. I confuse easily. And drink. A lot.

I did try that, and it didn't work.Reinstalled 15.2, and it shows my media (TV, Movies, Music, Add-ons), but ALL settings, including mapped drives disappeared.

Then you obviously deleted the user files as well, can't help you with that.

I kept them, that's why everything still shows up within Kodi 15.2, if they would have been deleted, it would have been a clean install, and my media, add ons, and everything wouldn't still be there.

Thank you.

Your http://kodi.wiki/view/Userdata is where your settings, gui, and everything lives.

Delete that and you bounce into never touched Kodi land.

The userdata doesn't change per install. Hence why you can go from version to version maintaining your settings. Even with regression.

But again, unless you follow the instructions from http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=42708 for your OP, its hard to keep guessing.

I will venture a guess here:

When you launched Kodi16 for the first time you closed it as it didn't open a quickly as you would have liked. The DB version gets upgraded between major Kodi releases - it needs some time on first launch. I actually made the same mistake myself once. In my case things were wonky until I dropped my database from command line and started fresh.

It shouldn't be much work to even do a clean install and start over.
