v17 Recursive Slide Show
#1
Hi

I've been downloading the nightlies since being informed that the Recursive Slide Show issue I raised on Kodi 16.1 is no longer being developed.

They've been a mixed bag of results ranging from only loads the opening splash screen to allowing me to navigate to my smb share and run a recursive slide show, but only on one sub folder at a time and not from the root of my gallery.

Today I thought a small breakthrough was in the offing. I managed to get the contra rotating cogs displayed whilst it built the slide show from the root of my gallery. But this icon was displayed but a few times before the app blew away back to my phones home screen.

So, keep up the good work! If there's anything I can upload here to help debug, I'm happy to do so, just let me know what and how.

The phone is a Galaxy Note 4 running Android 5.1.1

Oh BTW, I can't see any option in any of the nightlies so far that would allow you to randomise a recursive slide show. Is that a feature yet to be built?

Cheers Smile

Hi

Downloaded the last few nights updates but no change to the problems I'm having with the slideshow.

I have found that I can activate the left screen fly out, but it's very hit-and-miss getting it to respond. In any event, activating a slideshow by either method suffers from the same problem.

WooHoo!

Some success today after installing last nights update (12th May). My Note 4 can play a recursive slideshow from my Windows 10 Pro smb share root of my Gallery Smile

The first attempt crashed after a few minutes of playing.

The second attempt (without rebooting the phone) and it's not *that* random in the sense that it'll display pictures from the same timeline before moving on to another date altogether. It also started from the same point as the first attempt.

Also noted 1 video at least that plays upside down in Kodi 17 that Kodi 16.1 plays the right way upHuh

But certainly getting there! Smile Smile

Decided to reboot the phone...

And it's now working perfectly! Completely random when selected from the left hand fly out screen. Nice Smile

Just need the tab that's selectable on the fly out screen in 16.1 putting back in 17 and then it won't be so hit-n-miss trying to getting it to activate.

Thank-you! Big Grin

Also works on the Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 10.

Although it did blow away my libraries and I had to put back the network location.

But now running smoothly.

First use of the left hand flyout menu works okay. But it doesn't stay out to select menu items in a different position to your finger. So selecting an option that requires you to replace your finger means the menu retracts. Trying to activate it a second time is virtually impossible without exciting to the home screen and navigating back to my picture gallery.

Same issue on both the Note 4 & yoga tab 3 10".

Random play doesn't appear that random when it's been running as a wireless picture frame for more than a couple of hours. Could Kodi be written to write a played flag somewhere during a single session so that "random" doesn't actually mean random ;-)

Still downloading the nightlies on a pretty regular basis...

Does anyone know if we're likely to see changes that allow a more reliable method of accessing the left hand flyout menu and being a little more logical about the way random play is implemented?

I have just over 10,000 files across 236 folders and yet photos and videos are repeatedly displayed during a single 2 hour session. Those figures coming from a Properties of my top level folder in Windows Explorer. If anyone knows how to get Kodi to provide the same statistics, could they post a reply please just so I can confirm that Kodi can at least 'see' everything that should be available to it?

Cheers

Don't expect there to be any major changes for v17 when it comes to touch screens. Maybe in the future, but for v17 it has been quiet on that front. Not that it is bad, just that other areas are a bigger focus, maybe.

And the 'randomness' issue?

Took the Lenovo Tab on holiday and screwed up my simple Kodi installation trying to get it to install the android versions of some popular video add-ons. So blew away that installation and started again.

Now I'm back in the UK I want it to go back to picking up the recursive slideshow and with the version I installed on holiday and the last few nightlies the slideshow fails when it encounters a video. Doesn't appear to matter what format the video is in either.

Screen goes black and displays the counter rotating cog graphic for about 2 seconds and then goes completely black. If I leave the device alone, eventually the slideshow aborts and you're returned to the Pictures page in Kodi.

If you press the devices back button whilst the screen is black it then plays the video for a short while before, once again, bombing out and returning you to the Pictures page.

Anyone else seeing this behaviour?

Unfortunately the nightly download page doesn't go far enough back in time for me to select a version, that I had originally working, for a direct comparison.

[Edit] Have tried using my Note 4 running V17.0 Alpha 3 running from the same source as the Lenovo and it runs just fine. Is there somewhere I can access Alpha 3? I can't tell if http://mirrors.kodi.tv/releases/android/...bi-v7a.apk translates as Alpha 3 or notHuh

Hi Folks

Lenovo Tab now fully working with the latest Beta and connected back to my Windows 10 Pro Server (see other thread on SMB connection issues).

Love the new Options graphic on the status bar at the bottom of the screen to activate the fly-out...Nice Smile

Also love (I think) that the random nature appears to be more random [sic]. But that's slightly difficult to get a true view of, given the next paragraph...

But the slideshow is crashing. I believe it's when it encounters a video. The counter rotating cogs churn for a bit (assume that's buffering?) and then the screen goes blank and after a few minutes returns me to the top level folder of my Pictures gallery.

Kodi can play the videos if I select them individually, just not when it's part of a slideshow :'(

Please keep up the great work!

Actually, not sure where I got that impression from...

'Kodi can play the videos if I select them individually...'. It can't. The Lenovo 'Video Player' can, as can the standard Android 'Photos' app. But if I select Kodi it instantly crashes.

Also, last night's nightly, won't run at all. Had to go back to the 14th Sept package.

My Note 4 on Alpha 3 is still playing the very same video without issues (other than some initial buffering).

Ooo, just found this...

Just downloaded it from the Google Play Store and it works just fine, including just being able to open the SMB share without having to first add it as a network location Smile
