ODROID C2, nVidia Shield TV, HiMedia Q5 pro, WeTek – yet another 'vs' thread
#1
I've read a lot of posts in this forum about different platforms (this inlcude 'Pick the Right Kodi Box'). I've read many things about platforms on the web and I have one conclusion: there is a lot confusion. In my head at least. Wink
I really don't know which one would be better and I don't have money to buy all or make mistakes. So I started this thread in order to get even more opinions (that would probably make my head explode Big Grin)

And those are mine personal needs:
  • Support for all codecs, including 10bit HVEC
  • Bitstream or at least lossless passthrough
  • Proper 24p support
  • Easy to maintain – I can give it some time to make first setup but I don't want to making constantly some tweaks, hacks and changes in order to get smooth playback
  • Manage to play high bitrate flawlessly
  • Native SAMBA support
  • 1Gbit Ethernet
  • Stability – one of the most frustrating thing is some freezes, crashes or sync problems

What I don't care about – this means if something don't work as expected with those I won't cry:
  • HDR – I won't be getting proper TV anytime soon so…
  • 3D – same as above
  • Internal HDD support – everything will be served from network
  • WiFi Speed/Technology of even WiFi at all
  • USB3 support

It will be hooked into AV Receiver: Yamaha RX-673 via HDMI cable.

So I've got this four competitors:
ODROID C2 with LibreELEC
+ It's quite cheap
+ It seams it almost work like I would like to
+ LibreELEC active development
- Needs little more attention to make it work properly
- There are some unresolved issues

nVidia Shield TV
+ Quite powerful
+ Still have major updates
+ Everything should work (with Kodi 17 or SPMC)
- Quite expensive, especially with remote
- Has active cooling – this could mean noise

HiMedia Q5 pro
+ Seems it should work
+ Reasonable price
+ Easy to get in EU
- Based on Q10 pro there can be some issues
- Don't like silver case

WeTek new products
+ Should have reasonable price
+ Should work good with OpenELEC onboard
+ Have a history of good support
- At the moment too many is unknown
- There is no release dates so I'd have to be patient

At the moment I really like Shield but that could be because I discovered it just recently. Wink

Really? Where? You need to know that nVidia don't have Shield TV in each language on their website. There is none in Poland for example.

Edit: Ok, I see that at least Amazon in UK has this bundle at really great price. Smile
