A-B repeat, like on the 360

Just wondering if someone could add this simple function to the menu or map it onto one of the unused number buttons of the remote. If you haven't used it before, all it does is once the button is pressed it begins a loop, the second time it's pressed the loop ends and then it starts repeating the loop, the third time cancels the loop. I think this would be fairly easy to add and thanks in advance to the devs if they choose to do so.

I'm not sure why the OP is getting grief for this. It seems like a great idea. Every DVD player I've ever owned had this option. Press a button, press the button again, and the scene will loop infinity between the two button presses.

spiff doesnt have his "grumpy old bastard" tag for no reason lol
its easy for someone that does NOT code to turn araound and say "its simple enough", which it never is
think spiff was just pointing out if its so simple to write the patch him self and submit it, how ever being as the OP is asking in the 1st place chances are he cant code just like me and 98% of people on here.

my advice for the OP never, NEVER say "its simple enough" lol

Excellent point!

I think what the OP meant is that it's probably slightly more complicated than having a pause and play button. Probably implementing rewind was more complicated than the A -> B thing. I don't think he meant to undermine the programmers. I think he just meant it as it's such a small and simple feature he's surprised it's not there.

If I knew how to program it I'd add it myself, too. But I know about as much as programming as I do flying helicopters. Smile

Out of all of my friends, I know nobody aside from myself that ever used this feature. I think I did once, and realized it was not interesting to me in the first few seconds.

I just don't think many people use this feature on DVD players. Honestly, it feels like someone would be coding it so that "it could do anything my DVD player does" instead of "everything I want my media center to do."

This is a great example of a feature that only a few people use. Thus, it'll take one of those few people to write the patch, as other developers are unlikely to do it given that they don't use it.

If someone does want to do a patch then I can guarantee that they'll get any assistance they need in terms of pointing to appropriate places in the code and so on.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Do developers here accept donations? I'd be willing to donate something decent to have the feature implemented.

I'm assuming this type of coding is more in line with visual basic/C++ than it is HTML or something?

The project as a whole accepts donations. You can earmark them if you wish, but note that such earmarks may have no bearing whatsoever on how the monies are spent.

I suspect that donations would be unlikely to cover the time taken to implement such a feature, but would be happily proven wrong!

And yes, we'd be talking C++ coding. Probably not a great deal for basic support, but for decent support (including UI feedback and so on) it would take a bit more.

Cheers,
Jonathan

I'll throw $50USD in the direction of anyone who gets this patch going. I hope I don't sound too stingy but I'm fairly broke, and under the impression it shouldn't require an obscene amount of time to implement.

I know $50 is a pathetic offering but I figured some people would pitch in as well. Hope I did not offend!

What is the state of this feature? I'll donate to xbmc $75 or to anyone who can patch this.
