it highly depends on your needs. IF LE provides everything you need, then stick with it.

This is a minimal Ubuntu Server installation for Intel based hardware. You are able to apt-get with that, because that's not a read-only system which LE is. So addind software and drivers is possible there. But you don't have a OS GUI. It will directly start into kodi- The underlying OS way more flexible than OE or LE is. Both, OE and LE are more or less complete different stories in comparsion to that VAAPI thread. Only thing they have in common....any of it will run kodi in the end Wink.

Please be aware, that you might have problem with the drivers in relation to the hardware you use and the external HDD you want to use. It's not a general LibreELEC USB 3.0 problem. Just to make that clear Wink.

Like most issues - troubleshooting. Start by checking logs such as dmesg.

@Boremc:

tbh...just stop spamming different forums AND different threads with that problem. As fritsch already told you, it's not a kodi problem. It might be a LibreELEC only problem. So this forum can't do anything for you beside you install this: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=269815

and report at that thread. Milhouse is one of the devs and he might be able to do most for you.
