Changing Channel Names in WMC/Kodi with EPG123
#1
Hello,

I apologize for starting so many threads lately, but I keep running into roadblocks that I can't seem to push past. I'm running WMC on Windows 10 and using EPG123 to feed the guide... and then using SWMC to feed Kodi. I've deselected the channels that I don't want in EPG123. However, I'd love to be able to rename some of the channels to a custom name. I thought editing them in WMC would work, but every time I update the guide, it appears to overwrite the changes and puts them back to how Schedules Direct has them named. Is there a way to do this?

And then is there a way to change the order of the channels? I'd like to put them in alphabetical order.

Thank you all!!

Regards,
Kurt

Serverwmc/kdo should use the same channel names that you set wmc, but if wmc is not retaining your changes then its not going to work. Maybe try talking to the epg123 author about why the changes aren't being retained.

Thank you for the reply!! I will reach out to him. I know I've seen him post on this forum in the past. Do you know if he is still active here?

I poke my nose in every once in a while. I've actually never tried to do what you are trying, but I would suggest for starters to make sure the automatch is not selected. With automatch selected, epg123 will attach/refresh a station to a channel on every update. Leaving it unselected should maintain your custom naming.

I just ran the above tests and neither with nor without automatch selected caused the custom channel name to revert to the Schedules Direct station name. I'm not sure what is going on with your setup.

Thank you to your both for your reply. After playing with it a bit, I noticed that the changes STAY in WMC, but they never make their way to Kodi. I attempted to reload channels in SWMC and it states "Edited Channels> Callsigns: 9, Numbers: 5". When I go to Kodi, I clear guide data and then re-enable the PVR. When it loads, none of the changes to the channel name or channel number are retained. Here are my logs if this is helpful. My SWMC log had to be split into two since it was too large:

SMWC (Part 1): http://pastebin.com/6WFrNvRA
SMWC (Part 2): http://pastebin.com/Pn7JrWrW

Kodi: http://pastebin.com/N0U0HbeE

Thank you all for your help! It is really appreciated!

I think kodi is probably still using the old names, and its internal database is not really reset. If you want, to can log all the channel detail and see what changes serverwmc is seeing, but at 10000 channels this will be a huge log. If you want to do it, in swmc's settings change Debug_ChannelDetail to true, then save and restart serverwmc. Then in the giant log you get, search for the channels you change and post what it says. Don't forget to change this setting back when you run normally.

I know you guys are programmers, and you built these programs, but you all amaze me with your knowledge of this stuff. With that said, I did as requested. I took out a snippet of the log since I can't post the whole thing. This is what the log shows:

http://pastebin.com/bWR8qdyY

The changes that I would like are as follows:

Original:
Channel Name: The Blaze TV
Channel Number: 112

Changed to:
Channel Name: The Blaze
Channel Number: 118

If I'm reading the log correctly, then it appears that SWMC is making the changes correctly... which means that your assumption of Kodi using old data would be accurate. That leads me to two questions:

1. Is my understanding accurate?
2. If it is, then how do I get Kodi to officially clear out the log?

Thanks for everything!

Yeah, you understand correctly and it is working fine. One thought: in the 'channels' tab of serverwmc do you should have 'call sign' checked (default) instead of 'full service name'? If so that's the problem, you should use the call sign.

Did you mean to say that I should NOT use the call sign? I currently have "full service name" checked.

My mistake, poorly worded. You need to have call sign checked because that's what you are renaming in WMC.

It ALWAYS comes down to one checkbox lol! That seemed to fix it. I thought I was doing the "smart" thing by checking "full service name" because that's what I wanted it to display in the guide. Little did I know that I was actually changing the call sign. My fault! Thank you for ALL of your help! You guys are awesome!
