When i look at gtx 950/960 they both have hdmi 2.0.

To be able to play hevc 4k hdr 60hz i read you need hdmi 2.0a or later.

Hdmi 2.0 i read can be upgraded to 2.0a with firmware/driver, and it have not been done yet i read so now i am leaning more towards the new amd rx 460 that got the latest hdmi 2.0b.

Do someone know if nvidia have mentioned if the 950/960 will get updated to hdmi 2.0a or later?

The 950 and 960 are no longer being manufactured and firmware updates for graphics cards in general are extremely uncommon. Honestly, the only case I ever actually read about a firmware update to improve HDMI support level was the PS3, which actually climbed from 1.2 to 1.4a over various updates. I have a hard time imagining a graphics card though would see such an update.
