In this case possibly, unless you can create an account on both devices with the same credentials. That may or may not work, depending on the devices. This is always the "fun" part of doing such shares across different operating systems...

It really is not that difficult. I have andrid TV, android tablet, android phone, sailfish phone, linux laptop and win7 laptop on the same network and everything can be shared. Plus, there's a NAS on my router that is accessible from every device I mentioned.
Since I'm now on linux machine and it's kinda late here I'll boot up wifey's win7 machine tomorrow and tell you how to do it.

OK, since I'm really not good with writing detail tutorial because I always presume to much...........
This should help you http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=63123
after you are done with the above, go to media settings>library>under manage sources pick the category you want>>add.............>browse>windows network (SMB) and you should see the network group that your PC is in, click, select your PC and you should see the folder(s) you are sharing.

But this is basically the same things what Prof Yaffle gave you links for.

Thanks for the info. I followed the instructions in the thread to the letter, including disabling my MS Live sign in, However:

If I select Windows network (SMB), I don't see my PC, I see WORKGROUP (which is empty).
If I add new location and enter the details manually, I can add a share. But when I select Files > <folder_name>, I either get a partial content listing which then disappears, or two messages: Invalid Argument, followed by Couldn't connect to network server.

Maybe there's a subtle difference with Win 10 (the instructions are for Win 7)?

I appreciate your help but I am going slowly nuts!

The links below might also be helpful. I've also read on various sites that Windows update KB3140768 is also a known cause of SMB breakage in Win10, so you could check your system to see if it's installed and if so try removing it and see if that helps.

Win10 SMB is somewhat different to Win7 (and some of the differences are not so subtle). There have been many reports of the upgrade (and also the further upgrade to the anniversary edition) breaking SMB access - look in the Windows section here for some threads on the subject. Mainly the difference seems to relate to the log-ins used, specifically local ones vs MS account ones.

It seems that there is bug in Win 10. Others, like myself, can use ES Explorer with no problem (even playback through Kodi), but use Kodi itself. This is discussed in the follwoing 13-page thread:

http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=248365

A workaround is to share from a separate partition, which presents no problem.

No one seems to know why.

Thanks for all your help.
