Are Dual-Core/Quad-Core CPU faster at video decoding?

Multiple cores are particularly useful in decoding HD h.264 video, with that CABAC patch from a few months ago.

Wow, someone hasn't read much of this thread. Sad And the CABAC patch mentioned above works against video encoded far further back than a few months ago. XBMC began supporting it then but nothing special, near as I can tell, needs to be done to videos to see benefit. XBMC is VERY much multithreaded and it REALLY shines on high bitrate HD video.
Openelec Gotham, MCE remote(s), Intel i3 NUC, DVDs fed from unRAID cataloged by DVD Profiler. HD-DVD encoded with Handbrake to x.264. Yamaha receiver(s)
