Is there any functionality built in to kodi to automatically down / up grade the quality stream used when passed a link to an m3ua file with multiple qualities available based off the available bandwidth? Similar to what netflix does. From what I see it only plays the top quality available and instead of downgrading when needed it just buffers.

Thanks. I was not aware of the correct terminology, I was able to find the post on this where you commented.

there's no automated support yet iirc
you can already select stream quality though like with YouTube in v17

Yeah, my addon has the option for manual I was just hoping there was support for a better user experience instead of the need to stop and reopen to choose a different quality. No big deal. Thanks everyone
