I am running ubuntu 16.04 lts and kodi v17. When I switch it to hdmi I get a blank screen on my LG TV

worked fine in the previous version of kodi 16.1

not sure what the problem is

Are you booting up with the TV switched on 1st and then powering up your kodi install?

Ahh so you have a laptop, at least that is SOME info.

How about a debug log (wiki). Sounds like your HDMI out is set at a resolution r refresh rate not supported by the TV.

There may be something in your Xorg log as well.
