v18 Kodi freezes overnight
#1
I'm running Kodi and Tvheadend on a Shield TV.  A nuance to this setup is zap2epg doesn't automatically run.  I set up some Cron jobs to simulate the button presses to get it to run automatically.  This was working for a while but stopped.  It works when I test it within a few minutes but doesn't work when Kodi sits overnight.  However, the Kodi log shows the commands were executed with no errors (there are plenty of other errors).
Initially I thought it was because the Shield was going to sleep but I set sleep to never (the Shield light stays on) and the problem still occurs.
Also, Kodi is hung in the morning when I try to use the navigation keys.  I will get kicked out of Kodi and have to start it again.

Below is a log file.  The zap2epg Cron job starts at 5 am.

Thanks in advance for any help

Giving this a bump.  It appears that Kodi is shutting down either by itself or from a command from somewhere.  Below is what makes me think this.  The whole log can be found here (I didn't have debug enabled):

I think I've narrowed down the problem.  And it is puzzling.
Kodi is stopping when I turn off my TV or when the TV goes to sleep (the Shield TV stays on).
HDMI-CEC is disabled on the Samsung TV, Onkyo receiver, and the Shield TV.
I have a FLIRC (the Shield is not the Pro version with IR) but Kodi still stops when I turn off the TV without the FLRIC plugged in.
This happens with both the TV remote and my universal remote.
If I switch the receiver to a different input Kodi stays on.
But if I turn off the TV while the receiver is switched to a different input, switch back to the Shield input, and turn the TV back on, Kodi stops when I turn the TV back on!
And if I turn the TV off and on while the receiver is switched to a different input, switch back to the Shield input, Kodi stops when I switch the receiver input back.
But I can switch inputs back and forth and Kodi won't stop as long as I don't turn off the TV.
I previously had Kodi connected directly to my TV, I don't think I had this problem until I connected it through the receiver.
I have no HDMI-CEC options in Kodi under peripherals.
Below is a log file with debugging enabled.

Help!!!

No need to highlight a log section when you already pastebin'ed it Wink

I just noticed some thing... I don't have any EPG experience, but I do know that CEC can be a pita experience. So far, the Shield TV presented the least of CEC problems compared to my other Kodi CEC devices.

This repo is at least a year old, and updated even long before that. You sure you still want this Youtube version instead of the current Kodi one?

BTW: did you already have your Oreo update on your Nvidia Shield TV?

I got the Youtube Library addon form that Repo.  My internet data is metered (and slow) so I'm trying to schedule downloads during off hours when I have more data (having problems with that also).  I went ahead and updated Youtube Library and Youtube-DL just to be sure but I think they were the latest.
I'm on Oreo.

A little more information.  If I let things go to sleep (in order):
Shield goes to sleep - Kodi doesn't stop
Receiver goes into standby - Receiver complains about no input, warns that it is going into standby, then goes into standby - Kodi doesn't stop
TV goes to sleep - Blank display, then complains about no input, and then goes into sleep - Kodi doesn't stop.
Turn on TV - Kodi doesn't stop but TV shows no input available.
Wake Shield - Kodi doesn't stop but TV shows no input available.
Bring receiver out of standby - Kodi stops and TV shows Shield home screen.

This appears to be a problem with Kodi since the Shield being be awake or asleep doesn't seem to change the results.

Giving this a bump again.  As a summary:
1) Kodi stops when I turn off my TV.
2) If I manage to trick Kodi into staying on when I turn off my TV, my Cron job runs (according to the Kodi log file) and the file doesn't show any errors with regards to executing the Cron job. However, the Cron job hasn't executed.
How do I fix this?
Thanks

Some additional information:
I confirmed that Kodi only stops when I turn off the TV if I have the HDMI cable run through the Onkyo TX-NR646 receiver.  If I bypass the receiver and connect the Shield directly to the Samsung UNJS8500 TV Kodi does not stop when I turn off the TV.
I called Onkyo and they said the problem is with Kodi/Shield.
So, how do I determine if the problem is with Kodi, the Shield, or the receiver?
Could this be something related to HDCP?  I read that Kodi is considering implementing DRM.  Has Kodi started implementing DRM stuff in the nightly builds?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
