Solved Kodi will not start on Ubuntu 18.04
#1
Hello,

I have recently installed Kodi on my ubuntu machine, using App Grid.

I tried to launch it, but all I got is a crashlog file (see below)

What can I do ?

Here is some information about my installation. The computer is a Mac Mini, with Ubuntu 18.04 installed on it (I completely erased macOS). Since the computer does not have a screen, I connect to it using x2go. The desktop environment is MATE.
I (try to) launch Kodi using MATE's applications menu.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Starting Kodi from Debian (17.6 Debian package version: 2:17.6+dfsg1-1ubuntu1). Platform: Linux x86 64-bit

I'm confused...

If you want to install Kodi on Ubuntu 18.04, simply use the directions for the Kodi PPA on our Wiki page.

Thank you for your answer.
What is it that confuses you ?
Anyway, I have tried to follow your recommendation. I removed Kodi using App Grid. Then, I followed the instructions given on the page that you suggested.
Kodi will still not start. Here is the new Crash Log I get : https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/G5Vq9zfr7n/

This is why. The X Server the x2go is based on is really old and doesn't even support GLX 1.4. I'm pretty sure it doesn't support EGL either which Kodi uses.

Thank you for your answers.
I have started the computer with a screen attached to it, and kodi indeed started without a problem.
Many thanks to both of you for your help !
