Android Nvidia Shield TV live tv jitters after a few minutes
#1
I already wrote about this here

correction to the above post, this also happens with 18.6 (2019 shields)

and now also Nvidia Shield Tv Pro 2015 is affected after latest update 8.2.0 (32.6.435.1), was working fine with all Kodi versions on 8.1.1 (32.7.301.99).

Live Channel app works ok with this channel with PVR Live and Tvheadend addon, only Kodi having this problem

fox hd. after shield restart video is ok for some random minutes. after that picture freezes and changes a bit every 10 seconds. audio is ok most of the time, some stuttering every now and then
video decoder ff-h264 (SW)
pixel format yuv420p
deinterlace method yadif=1:1:1
video stream 1,920x1,088 px, 1.78 AR, 50.000 FPS
audio stream FL, FR, ff-mp2, 16 bits, 48,000 Hz
aq: 10%, Kb/s 187.50 rr 0.99877
vq: 22%, Mb/s 14.94, fr: 50,000, drop:0, skip:0 pc:2

debug log with shield pro 2019 8.2.0 (32.6.435.1) and kodi 18.8.0 armv8. same issues with nightly 19.0. and also with shield 2019 armv7.

emerapuyun.kodi (paste)

playback started around 2020-08-26 21:34 and problem started about 2020-08-26 21:38:24 just before when there's "Keyboard". some of the log is cut from the middle.

no other issues with similar specs channels.

I can provide access to the channel stream if needed.

File a bug with nvidia. Seems now both version work the same - bad.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

but playback works ok with google's "Live Channels" app. only Kodi playback is affected.

Those are neither interlaced nor forced sw decoder with sw deinterlacer.

Enable Mediacodec and Mediacodec surface. Don't compare apples with pies. Also: they broke working SW with a fw update. If that's not a regression, no idea what would...

I dont think there is an android box that can do 1080p 50fps interlaced stuff using software decoding with yadiff deinterlancing method. Shield is a beast and it probably can do it for a while but...

Live Channel app works because it uses hardware decoding.

shield pro 2015 was playing nicely this content with all versions of Kodi on 8.1.1 (32.7.301.99). now broken on 8.2.0 (32.6.435.1).

2019 shields (tube and pro) was having this problem already on 8.1.1.

both mediacodecs enabled. logs didn't give any clue?

So Nvidia broke it with their firmware update. You can either roll-back the update or ask them to fix the issue their firmware update has created.

In the log you posted Mediacodec is used. In your text you write about a SW Decoder and Yadif deinterlacing. Why?

my bad, that's was specs with that channel from windows kodi.

in shield:
aq: 10%, Kb/s:185.55, rr:09994
vq: 22%, Mb/s:14.12, fr: 50.000, drop:0, skip:0, pc:1
Player: a/v: 0.016, forward:0 B 23%
VsyncOff: 0.0 latency: 0.064

as said I have other channels with exact the same specs and those are playing ok with every shield and kodi version.

even shield 2015 played this channel ok with every version of kodi with previous nvidia firmware so it's not about hardware.

... and not about kodi.
